“As the fastest growing city in India – Bangalore faces many obstacles and dramatic transformations resulted by the economic liberalization. As an outcome, today’s city of Bangalore is a city of different tempos and entities. It is vital to be conscious of what a city is upon revising what it means. Therefore, it can be understood that global approaches and common urban planning tools such as zoning methods lack effective implementation.
This is clarified when one becomes aware of Bangalore historical background and recent increased independence. Bangalore has come to be a patchwork city filled with diverse neighbourhoods. As of today, the future of the city of Bangalore is unknown. The city’s challenges are enormous, as are the opportunities.
Imagine you have the power to change one place in Bangalore. What places should be developed or preserved? What are the hidden visions of Bangalore’s future?” Anne-Katrin Fenk, T. von D.
“[…] the project Weltstadt – Who creates the city? asks: Who really creates the city today? And who will shape its future? Inspired by these central questions, Weltstadt aims to connect projects initiated by the Goethe-Instituts and their local partners worldwide, which all deal with new forms of local city-making. Weltstadt identifies projects that share a common interest in testing urban visions and are engaged in compiling new constellations of urban actors for a better tomorrow”. by Matthias Böttger, Angelika Fitz and Tim Rieniets
